After a convincing victory over Turf Moor’s Clarets, the Blues Boss talked when adding goals to his smart sheets
After a string of four clean sheets and with back to back wins after their 3-0 away victory at Burnley, Frank Lampard claims that Chelsea are rising in confidence.
The Turf Moor goals were won by Hakim Ziyech, Kurt Zouma and Timo Werner for a win that pulled the Blues to fourth in the Premier League table and sees them just one point behind the Everton table top.
It comes after a stretch of erratic displays with a week of weak defense and an inability to produce the next one. Speaking in Lancashire, Lampard was pleased with how his side looked when he first moved from the beginning to a 4-3-3 system and he feels the West Londoners are starting to create momentum.
After the match, Lampard told reporters, ‘’I thought it was a very complete show.’’ ‘’It’s a tough place to come here and play; they make it very difficult.’’ You know, you have to protect your box well, and with the first and second balls, you have to be really good.
I wanted one priority to be that and the other to continue to improve the way we play on the ball. That’s what I really enjoyed today. Some of the team’s passing and movement from minute one to the end of the game was quite strong.
‘’This feels like a good step ahead. I keep talking about the job we need to do; with that, we’re nowhere close to the end of the line, so the result was a pretty solid win.
A lack of pre-season after the shortened period between last year and the new campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic was part of the reason for the slow start.
As the reason why his side, with six new signings, has not quite gelled yet, Lampard pointed to less time on the training pitch. There are rising signs, however, that it is coming together on that front.
From this week, we have had strong momentum, ‘’he added.’’ Drawing at Manchester United, clean sheet, and two progressive and improving results. I’ve been noticing it. We didn’t have a pre-season until we brought in players at the start of the season.
We haven’t had the time to function because the job is moving on. I knew we couldn’t throw anything in the air and everything would work perfectly. The clean sheets are a great sign of the team’s spine, but the clean sheets are a great sign of the team’s spine.
‘’Thiago and Edouard Mendy have improved that massively, but the squad, the way we defend with the attitude, today on the ball was very good. After a win like this, I’m not going to jump up and down, but it was a really positive day.’’
The string of three away matches for Chelsea has now come to an end. The next two matches are in the Champions League against Rennes and in the Premier League against Sheffield United.
